January: The Factory Reset

Well, we did it, we made it through the first month of the new decade. Is it break time yet?

For me, January is a hard one. The adjustment out of my “Holiday Haze” back to school, and what that means for my mind, and body, the sun never seems to shine, and I am still not used to how cold it can get here in Oakville! I have to remind myself time and time again to be kind to my body, mind, and my spirit or winter takes its toll.

Which is why I am so grateful for the amazing people I get to surround myself with every day at my school, these people have become some of my nearest and dearest. They help to keep me grounded and pushing through to be better each day. I know, it’s a bit mushy but hey, I love them to the moon and back. To watch them all reach amazing heights and be so open and vulnerable is amazing. The second years got to finally perform their Creative Dance Projects, and watching as an upper year I was so proud and excited for them.

I do love the rush of new dedication January can bring, I’m not talking about a resolution, I am talking about the reset that happens as everyone looks forward to the year ahead. For me I set out a goal to have an attitude of gratitude and to write down one thing that I am grateful for everyday, and while I have missed some days this is something that I will continue to do throughout my year.

I know that this month can be tough and towards the end it really got to be a slog, but I am excited for the last few weeks of winter and I have my fingers crossed for at least once snow day, though with the mild winter this year here in Oakville not sure that will happen which is okay too. I eagerly look forward to seeing out second block open here at Sheridan and seeing all my friends shine so brightly in the shows.

Thank you January for the challenges you offered, and onwards to February!
